We will check-out from the Wilderness Hotel in the morning. After a short drive, we will visit Siida, the national museum of the Finnish Sámi people, and learn about the nature of Lapland and the Sámi culture.
After lunch at the on-site restaurant, we will continue to the Wild Spirit Park, a one-of-a-kind park in Ivalo, which provides shelter to rescued animals. You will meet various rescues, such as arctic foxes, raccoon dogs, wild boars and huskies. The owner, Tiina, is passionate about animal rescue and will share her stories that will inspire you to live your life to the fullest. After the visit, we will drive to Saariselkä to check-in to a traditional log-house hotel where we will stay for the next night.
In the afternoon, we will hike through the forests and fjells of Urho Kekkonen National Park, the second-largest national park in the country. There are numerous hiking trails of various levels of difficulty leading through the untouched wilderness. Your guide will plan the day’s trek taking into account weather conditions and the fitness level of the participants.
After dinner you will have the opportunity to experience a true Finnish tradition… Sauna. Sauna is very much about being in the moment. The environment is one that denies distractions like social media, and encourages the virtue of presence. It’s a way of being connected with nature through its organic materials and atmosphere, providing a profound pause from the urban world.
