After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and head to the city of Rovaniemi – a three-hour drive. Our first stop is at the Arctic Circle to visit Santa Village. There are plenty of small shops selling arts and crafts and several restaurants to choose from for a self-catered lunch. The highlight of the village is Santa’s Main Post Office, where the postal elves are busy handling the 20 million letters to Santa from 200 countries around the world, every year. Even in the middle of summer, you will experience the warmth of Christmas cheer and can shop for souvenirs at the on-site gift shop.
We will spend the afternoon in Rovaniemi city. Rovaniemi is the administrative capital and commercial centre of Finland’s northernmost province, Lapland. Santa Claus’s home city is a combination of unspoiled nature, Iconic landmarks and urban services.
By late afternoon, we will head to the train station to embark on our journey to Helsinki. Not only are trains an efficient mode of transportation, they are also an environmentally friendly way to travel. VR (Finnish State Railways) trains are modern, clean and comfortable, and the double-deck sleeping cars have a wide range of modern services for all passengers. The compartments can accommodate 2-3 people and they have a small en-suite toilet/shower. The restaurant car offers a selection of warm meals, snacks and drinks, and dinner will be served here. As the train route passes through the country, in the white night of Finnish midsummer, you will be able to see more of the beautiful countryside with its lakes, fields and lush forests.
