Enjoy a fun day at Lake Rahajärvi, just ten minutes north of Ivalo village, where you'll learn the basics of traditional winter fishing and indulge in a delicious meal!

Our expert guides will teach you authentic Lappish ice fishing techniques, which include:

  • Ice drilling ("kairaaminen")
  • Traditional ice fishing ("pilkkiminen")
  • Under-ice net fishing ("juomustus")
  • Fish preparation demonstration
  • Making delicious fish soup

After reeling in our catch, we'll gather around a crackling fire in a traditional Lappish Kota and prepare the freshest fish you've ever tasted. You'll learn traditional fish cooking methods, with all the necessary equipment provided by Xwander.

This experience is perfect for friends, couples, and families. Kids can enjoy activities loke tobogganing and kick sledding, ensuring everyone has a memorable experience.

Itinerary

Meeting at Xwander Nordic

We will meet up at Xwander headquarters at 9:45 to gear you up for the Arctic Fishing adventure.

Ice fishing

Experience ice drilling and fishing in the traditional Arctic style. Learn the techniques used by the locals to catch fish even in the coldest temperatures.

Winter nets

Next we will check the submerged nets and discover the species native to Lapland, including White Fish, Pike, Perch or Burbot. A hands-on experience that brings you closer to the Arctic marine life.

Fish preparation

Participate in preparing the catch while receiving an informative biology lesson about the local fish species.

Making delicious fish soup

Conclude the day by learning how to make traditional Arctic fish soup in a Lappish Tipi Tent. Enjoy the warm, flavorful dish made from the fresh catch of the day!

Total duration of the activity is approximately five hours and we return to Ivalo between 14:00 and 15:00.

What is the cancellation policy?

  • Cancellation fee of 100% is charged if cancelled 7 days or less before the event.
  • Cancellation fee of 50% is charged if cancelled 30 days or less before the event.
  • Cancellation fee of 30% is charged if cancelled 45 days or less before the event.

What do I need to bring?

  • Warm Clothes: Dress in weather appropriate layers, including a good hat, scarf and socks
  • Phone, camera and a battery bank if needed

Please note

  • Temperature limit of -25°C: If the forecast for the day is colder / weather conditions unsuitable, we will cancel and/or reschedule the trip. There is no additional fee in case the trip is cancelled by Xwander.
  • Minimum age of the passengers is 4 years.
