![Did you know that polar night lasts for over 5 weeks in the Inari region? 🌙
Polar night started here yesterday, on 4th of December, and for the next 36 days the sun does not rise above the horizon.
Although this is the darkest time of the year, it's still not completely pitch black - not even during the night. There's two main reasons for it:
☀️Finnish Lapland is located so close to the Arctic Circle, that the sun is near the horizon during twilight. From there it radiates light into the upper parts of the atmosphere, and some of the light gets scattered onto the ground as well.
❄️ Everything is covered in snow! Snow reflects light and if the moon is bright, you wont even need a flashlight when you go outside.
