An evening trip into the world of the Aurora Borealis.

We will start out trip at Xwander Basecamp in Ivalo by picking up essential winter clothing and headlamps. After gearing up, we head toward the Aurora camp, which is located near Lake Inari. Even though the camp is only fifteen minutes away from Ivalo, it is completely free of light pollution.

All participants will enjoy warm drinks and an introduction to the nature of the Northern Lights upon arrival at the camp. Afterward, we will take a stroll on the lake and through the forest while discussing and observing the beautiful phenomenon in the sky.

After our walk, it will be time for an open-fire dinner at the camp. You can also choose to combine your Aurora camp experience with a relaxing tent sauna and ice swimming, a sleigh ride, or a ride on electric snow scooters.

Itinerary

Meeting at Xwander Nordic

We will meet up at Xwander headquarters at 18:45. We will gear you up for the Aurora Camp adventure with overalls, boots and gloves if needed.

Aurora Camp

Aurora camp is located in the vicinity of Lake Inari. Even though the camp is only fifteen minutes away from Ivalo, it is completely free of light pollution.
After introductory warm drinks we take a stroll on the lake and through the forest while discussing and observing the beautiful phenomenon in the sky.

Open Fire Dinner

Enjoy a tasty, locally sourced warm meal after we arrive back at the camp.
You can also choose to combine your Aurora camp experience with relaxing tent sauna and ice swimming, go for a sleigh ride or hop on electric snowscooters.

FAQ

What is the cancellation policy?

  • Cancellation fee of 100% is charged if cancelled 7 days or less before the event.
  • Cancellation fee of 50% is charged if cancelled 30 days or less before the event.
  • Cancellation fee of 30% is charged if cancelled 45 days or less before the event.

What do I need to bring?

  • Warm Clothes: Dress in weather appropriate layers including a good hat, scarf, and socks
  • Phone/camera, power bank if needed
  • Headlamp: If you have one, bring it along (don't worry if not, we provide you with one)
  • Snacks and Water: While snacks are provided, you may want to bring your favorites

Please note

  • Physical Requirements: The tour involves being outdoors in cold weather, so participants should be prepared for low temperatures. There is a warm tent and an indoor toilet in the camp
  • Accessibility: The experience is not fully accessible by wheelchair due to the nature of the terrain and activities. But we are able to offer accessible tour utilising our partner companies minivans with wheelchair support. Contact us for accessible options of this tour!
  • Weather Dependency: The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Our Aurora camp is designed for fun and games even on nights when Auroras might not be present
  • Clothing and Gear: Warm clothing and suitable winter gear are essential. Overalls, warm boots, and gloves are provided if needed, but it's advisable to dress in layers
  • A temperature limit of -25°C: If the forecast for the day is colder / weather conditions unsuitable,  we will cancel and/or reschedule the trip. There is no additional fee in case the trip is cancelled by Xwander
  • We will call you at 15:00 on the day of the activity for a weather update
