Meloja 1 Kayaking Course

The Meloja 1 course is a beginner-level course which provides the skills for safe kayaking. Those who have completed the course can kayak in sheltered waters independently and participate in guided kayaking trips. 

The course will be held on June 29th and 30th 2024, near the Veskoniemi harbor and it is divided into two parts:



• An online course where you get to know kayaking at a theoretical level. The online course is reviewed independently before the practical course weekend.
• Actual training in the water. The course starts at 10 a.m. and finishes around 5 p.m. on both days, consisting of 14 hours of training in total. We want to take our time and get acquainted with the waters of Inarijärvi at a mellow pace. 

Saturday is reserved for learning the kayaking basics. At the end of the day we will also go through rescuing situations in the water. Our new skills will be but into practice on Sunday when we embark on an excursion to one of the islands in Joensuuselkä. 

The course instructors are canoeing guide Ulla Kakko and canoeing instructor Sami Kauppinen.

All participants who finish the course get a digital Meloja 1 skill card, which are part of the Euro Paddle Pass system. Meloja 1 skill card is a prerequisite for guided trips and advanced courses. 

The course can accommodate a maximum of 12 participants. The course takes place with at least 6 participants. Places are filled in order of reservation.

The course meets the requirements set by the Finnish Canoeing and Rowing Federation.
